Along with some of the other D&AD winners I appeared on the Creative Review blog.

New site! After many sleepless nights and concept stages I finally got my website redesign done. Hopefully its a little more in your face and easy to navigate. Now there's not a single click needed to see my work.

Type Video: Decent Days and Nights by The Futureheads
This was a project undertaken during the first semester at SVA with Gail Anderson. The task was to create a music video in black and white, using only typography. I created a hand drawn version of Helvetica specifically for the video.

My personal info graphic
A project done for Scott Stowell at SVA where I measured the time I waste over the course of a week in books. I then projected how many books I could read over the course of the year. This is the result of some serious data collection distilled into the chart you see here.

Things I have learned in my life so far
During my first semester class at SVA with Stefan Sagmeister we had to illustrate our own quote. It has become very clear to me that my quote rings true. "I'm most productive in the morning" was constructed out of approximately 5000 hand cut matchsticks and alot of superglue. It took hundreds of hours to complete and was extremely labor intensive, but I had always wanted to take my "TRY" project further, and this time I managed to give the letters more definition. They are a relatively accurate rendition of Helvetica Neue Bold.

To see more of the projects see Things I have learned in my life so far.

Kathleen's Little Book of Style
During my first semester class at SVA with Stefan Sagmeister we had to touch someone's heart with design. I chose my girlfriend, Kathleen who has a bit of an issue getting out of the door in the morning. This is primarily because of her wardrobe, and the daunting task of putting together the perfect outfit. So I decided to simplify the process and create a style guide for her where she can mix and match, and compose her outfits. This involved me buying a mannequin and photographing every item of clothing that she owns.

Rather than show a single page, view the animation which shows every item in the book. (And a fraction of the work involved in putting it together. Its safe to say that this project nearly killed me)

Today you're the star
Another Stefan Sagmeister project trying to touch peoples hearts with design. This time I decided to help the people that try to get on NBC's Today show. Obviously not everyone manages to do it, so I gave out personal momentos of the day to everyone I met. Custom framed polaroids presented in hand stamped envelopes. You can see some of the signs people made below.

AIGA poster
This poster was made during my first semester class with the exceedingly wise Milton Glaser.
The issue at hand was dealing with design ethics, and in an attempt to tackle the subject and further pch my point I drew the entire image using a single line.

Hangerpak D&AD 2007

This piece has won a FIRST for the D&AD Student Awards 2007 category 'What else do you do?'

The concept was fairly simple: I buy t-shirts online and they always come wrinkled and I always run out of coat-hangers. So I designed a sustainable, reusable way to send and keep your t-shirts. As you open the package you create a coat hanger. The packaging could be made from recycled material whether it is card or plastic and the only waste is the green tear-away tab. The t-shirt seen here is from Threadless.

Blackburn Rovers FC logo
Again, created under the guidance of Milton Glaser. The task this time was to redesign a logo. I chose Blackburn Rovers FC (an English football club). I gave the club back its traditional colours and changed the more illustrative Tudor rose on the left to the more traditional and recognisable one.

Hillman Curtis poster
I designed the SVA guest lecture poster for Hillman Curtis. The idea of an image within an image references the many mediums that designers have to communicate through today.

Spaghetti head
What motivates you? When asked, I immediately thought of my fondness for pushing things to see whats possible and my love of typography. I was then instructed to put what ever it was inside a glass head.

The result is quite impressive. (Just incase you're wondering, its 9 and a half cans)

New business cards
New business cards based on silhouettes of 3 of my favourite projects. All hand silk screen printed by myself. Edition of 500

Writing in strobe
To illustrate the saying 'Try, try, try' I made each letter out of approximately 300 coloured matchsticks. Originally intended to be a 30 second animation, but I got too involved in the making process. The 3D letters themselves are beautiful but so too are the silhouettes they create. The animation project ended up being a 3D, photographic, and silkscreen printing piece.

Selfless magazine proposal
A group project where under the guidance of Milton Glaser we created the concept of a selfless design magazine. We wanted to make something that would raise awareness of the power thatdesigners have to help the commmunity. (With no adverts, self promotion, or ulterior motives allowed). "Selfless" magazine attempts to ask the reader to think about the ethical value of the work he or she does.

Design Thinking Research Symposia 7
A poster about people who meet up and talk about process and way we design. Although I didn't win the pitch I really enjoyed working on this project and how I managed to incorporate the data into the meeting-esc arrangement. It was demanding but satisfying to be so exact with the photography.

Flickird typeface
Having always wanted to create my own typeface I finally had a go. Its primarily based on rules of thirds and angles of 30˚ or 60˚. I wanted a typeface I would actually want to use myself with a subtle characteristic that set it apart from other sans serif type. 'Flickird' is the result.

You are here
An A0 sized poster made of 265 post-it notes featuring every designer in the exhibition, in the order that you will see them in as you walk around the space. The colours denote the sections within the exhibit. As the exhibition was about information design I wanted to inform the viewer by the process of being at the exhibition and creating your own information graphics system by making notes. The brief was set while I was at CSM by Ross Cooper who's awesome Last clock project was featured in the exhibition.

Environmental typography
A project aimed at making type belong to where it is situated. I chose to redesign the Royal Albert Hall type using an adapted version of Tiffany in a mosaic. Again an I used an unusual approach to creating a unique piece of work. This time I smashed up terracotta pots and pasta in order to make my rough mosaic pieces.

Road safety
An A1 sized poster designed to grab your attention by its use of different line weights and moiré effect. It’s designed to work up close at a bus stop for pedestrians and also for road users passing by in urban areas to alert them about the right way to behave at a zebra crossing.
